FAQs

So, You Want To Know More.

Why Are French Bulldogs So Expensive?

Everyone wants to know why Frenchies are so expensive. The short answer is that they are in high demand and they are awesome. But if someone asks for a ridiculous amount of money for a puppy, you should think twice about it. Besides the initial cost of purchasing a puppy, you must understand these dogs are expensive to breed and expensive to whelp. By this, I mean that most Frenchies are bred by a veterinarian by artificial or surgical insemination because of their body structure. After insemination takes place, the focus is on the mother's health, so they can maintain a healthy pregnancy. Due to the complexities of female French Bulldogs' body structure, most can't deliver naturally. Puppies are born by cesarean by a knowledgeable veterinarian. The average litter size of a French Bulldog is 3-5 puppies. From birth to 8 weeks, all our time is spent making sure your puppy is a happy, healthy, well-socialized puppy so that when we send them home with you, you know they are ready to join your family. All of these aspects factor into the price of a French Bulldog puppy from an ethical and caring breeder.

Most ethical breeders, won't sell you a $10,000 puppy and claim it's exotic, so it costs more to breed. It doesn't cost them more at all. Because there is no such thing as an exotic French Bulldog. It's a marketing ploy. Ethical breeders breed to improve the breed standard. They look to find homes that will focus on the puppies' health and happiness. French Bulldog puppies sold to Pet Homes, typically go from between $3000 -$5000 and come with a limited AKC registration. A prospective show quality puppy is a completely different conversation and if you are interested in showing your future French Bulldog, let me know.

Are Frenchies Easy To Train?

Most Frenchies are very willing to learn. They are smart and want to make their humans happy. They are also very stubborn and pigheaded and will try to train you. If you make it a game they’ll want to play all the time. If you are consistent they will quickly learn to do what you want them to do.

Are French Bulldogs Good Companions?

Being a companion is what they were originally bred for. They are fantastic companion dogs. They are fun, entertaining, cuddly, and loving. They have great big personalities with their own individual quirks and behaviors.

Are French Bulldogs Loud?

They are definitely noisy. They make some of the strangest sounds. They snort. They snore like crazy when sleeping. They burp and they fart.

Are French Bulldogs Socialble?

I started with one Frenchie who was a constant companion to our elderly Pug and I quickly knew I would have to get another. They need to be social.  Our puppies are socialized from an early age so they are great with all our other pets, children, and adults (we begin socialization after they have had all preliminary shots), and often are already used to being in the car. All our puppies are raised in our home. Each puppy gets all the love and attention it needs.

How Do I Find A Vet That Understands French Bulldogs?

Finding a veterinarian that understands this breed is very important. There are good Vets out there that just don't have enough experience with French Bulldogs. Do your research. Interview your vet and ask them how much they know about Frenchies. Ask them if they currently have any Frenchies they see regularly in their practice? Ask for references. It is very important that you have confidence in your vet and that your vet understands this breed specifically.

How Healthy Are Frenchies?

French Bulldogs, like many purebred dog breeds, have their very own set of health issues. There are DNA genotype tests for more than 30 canine genetic diseases. These tests can tell if a dog has genetic markers for these conditions.

How Long can a Frenchie live?

If you take good care of your French Bulldog and they stay relatively healthy, Frenchies are known to live between 10-12 years. But there are many that live far longer and those that live far shorter lengths of time.

What You Need To Know:

Frenchies And Their Health

Unfortunately, many unethical French Bulldog breeders breed litter after litter of puppies because of the popularity of the breed and because people will pay thousands of dollars for a puppy, any puppy, without knowing anything about the sire or dam's genetic history. Many Frenchies can develop:

Paralysis due to Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), spinal disc issues, and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).

Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). Many French Bulldogs have a high risk of BOAS due to their squashed faces and short snouts.

URT Infection

Skin Problems - Pyoderma, a bacterial skin infection, and Skin Fold Dermatitis.

Conjunctivitis

Ear Infections.

Diarrhea. They have very sensitive stomachs.
